Felony charges filed after crash on Edwards Boulevard

ELKHORN A 19-year-old Geneva Township woman was allegedly singing a song, driving in zig-zag fashion and traveling at about 50 mph on Edwards Boulevard when she crashed her vehicle.

As a result of the accident, a 14-year-old girl was flown Flight For Life to Froedtert Hospital where she was treated for serious injuries.

Sarah R. Wald, N3141 Canary Road, faces three felony charges of reckless driving causing great bodily harm. She also faces a misdemeanor charge of reckless driving causing injury.

If convicted, she faces up to 11-1/2 years imprisonment and $32,000 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint:

On Oct. 21 at about 6:56 p.m., police responded to a one-vehicle accident on the Edwards Boulevard extension. When police arrived, they observed that the vehicle was partially down an embankment and had sustained damage to its passenger side north of the Target and Best Buy Stores.

At the accident scene, Wald told police she was driving the vehicle, which had four passengers inside of it.

One of the passengers told police that Wald was singing and driving in a zig-zag fashion at the time of the accident. She also said she was driving at about 50 mph when she lost control of the vehicle.

The speed limit on Edwards Boulevard is 30 mph.

The 14-year-old girl who was in the crash suffered from a broken arm and shattered elbow and pelvis. She also will need skin grafts as a result of the accident.

As a result of the crash, another one of the passengers suffered from a fractured C-4 vertebrae, and another broke an arm.

After the crash, one of the passengers was limping and said she was experiencing pain.
