Darien man injured in crash

March 01, 2012

TOWN OF SHARON — This morning at about 8:29 a.m., Walworth County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a two car crash with injuries on Highway 14 south of Highway K.

Upon arrival, deputies found a man who had been ejected from the driver’s seat of a 1997 BMW. The man, who was not wearing his seat belt, was identified as Hilarion G Huerta, 39, of Darien.

Lifeline Helicopters flew Huerta directly from the crash scene to a Rockford Area Hospital. His condition is unknown at this time, according to a press release from the Walworth County Sheriff’s Department.

A preliminary investigation at the scene suggests Huerta was the sole occupant of the BMW, and was traveling south on Hwy 14 when he lost control of his vehicle as it entered a patch of snow-covered road. He then entered the north lane where his vehicle collided with a 2009 Chevy Silverado pulling a tandem-axle enclosed trailer, according to the press release.

The truck was being operated by Randall P. Kopp, age 52, of Eau Claire.

Darien, Sharon, and Delavan Rescue Squads responded to the crash scene. Also assisting at the scene were village of Darien and Walworth Police Departments.

The Sheriff's Crash Investigation Unit was summoned to the scene and is conducting the investigation. The incident is open and ongoing at this time.
