Five pounds of pot yields probation

July 05, 2012

A 50-year-old California man who was arrested with 5 pounds of marijuana in Geneva Township was sentenced June 27 to three years of probation.

Alexis D. Calderon, of Lake Forest, pleaded guilty April 20 to possession with intent to deliver marijuana.

As a condition of his probation, Calderon received a six-month jail sentence with work-release privileges. However, that jail sentence is stayed once the Department of Corrections has transferred Calderon’s probation to California. According to the criminal complaint: Police stopped Calderon’s vehicle on Highway 12 near Highway NN. The car was searched and 10 packages of marijuana were found in a duffle bag. The marijuana weighed a little more than 5 pounds.
