Man faces ninth OWI

A 69-year-old man was arrested Aug. 3 for what law enforcement is claiming is his ninth drunken-driving offense.
If convicted, Fred J. Schneider, of Zion, Ill., faces up to 10 years in prison and $25,000 in fines.
The charge also carries a minimum penalty of three years imprisonment.
According to online court records, Schneider is in custody in lieu of a $5,000 cash bond.
According to the criminal complaint:
A 52-year-old woman told police she saw Schneider operating a vehicle near PFI Fashions on Highway B, Bloomfield.
The arresting officer reported a strong odor of intoxicants on Schneider’s breath.
His eyes were bloodshot, his balance was poor and he admitted to consuming alcohol.
Schneider has previous convictions on March 21, 1991; Sept. 14, 1994; Oct. 21, 1994; Jan. 24, 1996; Feb. 4, 1997; Feb. 4, 1998; March 26, 1999 and March 3, 2001.
