Busy summer for Lady Chiefs volleyball includes national title
Long part of championship team, other Big Foot girls excel at Florida tournament

WALWORTH ó It may not have rivaled the excitement of the schoolís first state tournament run last fall, but the Big Foot girls volleyball players stayed sharp this summer with plenty of AAU action.

Eight players from last yearís magical state run competed at the recent AAU National Volleyball Championships in Orlando.

The most successful of the bunch was Big Foot junior Mackenzie Long, who played libero for the Club Fusion 16U Black squad out of Marengo, Ill. Her team beat out 367 others in the 16U division to win the national title. The Fusion defeated the Milwaukee Sting, 25-22, 21-25, 15-11, in the championship match. The champions went 13-0 including 26-5 in games for the tournament.

Annie Kunes, who will attend Division 1 University of Texas-San Antonio in the fall, and her Club Fusion 18U Black teammates took fifth place out of 280 teams. Kunes played libero in the tournament. The team lost to Sports Performance Elite in the quarterfinals.

Big Foot seniors Kat Rotta and Sydney Racky, both members of Club Fusion 17U Black, nabbed 40th place out of 300 teams. Rotta played setter, while Racky patrolled the right side.

Amy Schryver, a Big Foot junior, played libero for the Wisconsin Juniors 16-1ís squad out of Pleasant Prairie. The Juniors placed 26th out of 368 teams.

Big Foot senior Maggie Kivlin played right side for the Wisconsin Juniors 17-2ís. Her club took 216th out of 300 teams.

Meghan Schneider, who will play Division 2 volleyball at Indiana University of Pennsylvania this fall, was a middle blocker for the Club Fusion White 18U squad.

Finally, Big Foot junior Mikaela Lagerhausen played setter for Club Fusion 16U Orange. Her squad finished 201st out of 368 teams.
