ELKHORN — A 35-year-old man who molested a toddler in a Whitewater apartment was sentenced to 10 years in a state prison.

Scott L. Anderson was convicted during a November jury trial of first-degree child sexual assault.

On Jan. 11, Judge John Race also sentenced Anderson to 10 years of extended supervision. He will be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

Deputy District Attorney Joshua Grube asked for a 15-year prison sentence followed by 10 years of extended supervision.

“She is truly the most innocent of victims,” Grube said of the 2-year-old Anderson sexually assaulted. “She is completely unable to protect herself, and she is completely vulnerable.”

Grube said Anderson’s employment history was also troubling. He has worked as a babysitter, a carnival ride operator and a teacher’s aide for children with special needs.

Defense Attorney Joshua Klaff asked for probation with conditional time in the county jail.

Anderson has a low IQ, is borderline cognitively disabled and suffers from several mental health disorders, Klaff said.

When given a chance to speak, Anderson apologized but didn’t say much.

“I’m very sorry,” Anderson said. “I feel horribly bad for the mother and the child.”
