May 02, 2013

WHITEWATER — A 26-year-old Whitewater man was in the Walworth County jail on Monday following a two-car crash in the town of Whitewater on Saturday evening.

Jeremy B. Colberg has been arrested and charges are being referred to the Walworth County District Attorney’s Office for the following: Operating while intoxicated (third offense), four counts of causing great bodily harm — operating while intoxicated, open intoxicants in a motor vehicle, inattentive driving and failure to yield right of way while making a left turn.

Additionally, the Department of Corrections-Division of Probation and Parole has placed a hold on Colber following this crash. Colberg was on parole for a prior drug arrest conviction.

At about 8:14 p.m., April 27, Walworth County Sheriff’s deputies and Whitewater police responded to reports of a two-car crash on U.S. Highway 12 and County Highway N in the town of Whitewater.

Preliminary investigation indicated that Colberg, driving a 1996 Jeep Cherokee eastbound on 12, turned left onto County N into an oncoming westbound vehicle which had the right of way.

Both vehicles had green lights to go straight. The second vehicle, a 2008 Subaru minivan, was driven by Felix Yavnoshan, 73, of Palatine, Ill. Passengers in the minivan, Yelena Yavnoshan, 73, of Palatine, and Igor Yavnoshan, 50, and Olgal Yavnoshan, 46, both of Wheeling, Ill., were trapped and required extrication by the Whitewater Fire Department. Everyone in the minivan suffered broken bones and/or critical internal injuries. Felix Yavnoshan was flown by Flight for Life to a Madison-area hospital. The other passengers are in hospitals in Madison, Fort Atkinson and Janesville. There is no update on their conditions at this time.

The highway was shut down for about three hours while the Walworth County Crash Investigation Unit did its investigation.
