Geneva Resident in favor of Paratech
January 13, 2011 | 08:33 PM

Walworth County dispatchers will often send Paratech or Medix to certain calls that may require their services at the same time they dispatch the appropriate Fire Department. This is done to reduce the amount of time between BLS and ALS response. If the Fire Department gets to the person, and determines that Paratech is not needed, they will contact them on the radio and tell them to cancel (this reduces costs to the patient, and frees up Paratech for additional calls). On the other hand, sometimes the Fire Department will request Paratech before they get to the patient if they get the feeling that their help will be needed, if they have not already been dispatched. EMT's, whether basic, IV-tech or intermediate can do a LOT. They're not "ambulance drivers" anymore. No matter what city/village/town in Walworth County you live in, you've got some very well trained individuals waiting to help you when you need it. We have a system in place to provide the best service we can with what we have. We understand times are tough, and we do our best to find ways to do better even when we're being financially held back. It's very easy for people to complain when they don't know even a fraction of the whole picture. Bottom line is, Paratech serving this area in place of LGFD is a perfectly acceptable replacement that the residents will be happy with. There are many factors involved in this decision, and this will work very well until a Fire & Rescue Department is established there.
