Congressman Ryan has been part of the problem for years -

If Congressman Ryan wonders how we arrived at our current fiscal disaster, he should take a quick look at his own voting record which provides ample proof that he has been part of the problem all along.

His legislative accomplishments look like a Nancy Pelosi / Harry Reid wish list of large costly government programs. This includes support for the No Child left Behind Act (more federal spending for local education), the Medicare Prescription Drug and Modernization Act (the largest expansion of entitlement spending since the administration of President Lyndon Johnson), the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 (the $700 billion bailout for the financial sector) and the Auto Industry Financing and Restructuring Act (the auto industry bail-out / take over).

His support for the Medicare Prescription Drug and Modernization Act has done more to increase federal health care spending than “Obama Care”. This legislation created a huge new government entitlement with no offsetting budget cuts in other programs or user based fee structures to provide funding. In short, the programs costs were dumped on our children and grand children.

Our government’s primary function is now that of one big massive health insurance provider. In terms of growth, for the year 2000 federal spending for the government run health care programs of Medicare and Medicaid represented 18.5% of the entire federal budget, which at the time included no costs for wars in Afghanistan or Iraq. For the 2009 Federal Budget (pre “Obama Care”), Medicare and Medicaid consumed 23% of all spending. Government run health care is now the largest expense for the federal government, and at this rate of growth, it will bankrupt our nation. The only question is how long will it take.

Congressman Ryan’s plan relies on changes to Medicare 10 years in the future. Will our nation still be financially solvent by then?
