Thanksgiving and the people who are struggling
November 21, 2012 | 09:56 AM

I recently found the following prayer written years ago by the columnist who called herself "Dear Abby".

Oh, Heavenly Father,
We thank Thee for food and remember the hungry.
We thank Thee for health and remember the sick.
We thank Thee for freedom and remember the enslaved.
May these remembrances stir us to service
That Thy gifts to us may be used for others. Amen

I'm over 70 years old and there are few material things I need. I've asked family members and friends to gift "The Time is Now to Help" instead of giving me gifts this year.

If every one of us gives a little, that little will become a lot. If Sal receives a lot, he can pass it on to the families and individuals who have little or nothing and suddenly they will be warm, clothed and fed. There can't be a more precious give than giving to those who have so much less than many of us.

Tell your friends and family to send what they'd spend on a gift for you to Sal and let him put that money to work for good.

Have a blessed Thanksgiving everyone!
