Lake Geneva student Crete Slattery is making his fourth trip to the regional spelling bee.

The eighth-grade student at Lake Geneva Middle School finished in first place Feb. 6 in the school’s annual spelling bee.

That means he advances to the regional bee for the fourth time, his fourth appearance in five years.

Out of 18 competitors at the middle school event, fifth-grade student Sophia Liontas finished in second place, also qualifying her to advance to the regional event.

It will be Liontas’ first trip to the regional bee.

The regional bee is scheduled for Feb. 27 at Whitewater High School.
