State Rep. Tyler August, R-Lake Geneva, and State Rep. Amy Loudenbeck, R-Clinton, both said they will not become a candidate to fill Paul Ryan’s seat in the state’s 1st Congressional District.

Both are four-term members of the state Assembly who said supporters had urged them to consider making the jump from state to national politics.

Both said April 12 they would forgo the open congressional seat and would stay focused on their state legislative offices.

“After much consideration and prayer,” August said, “I have concluded my path forward will be to continue to serve in the state Assembly.”

Loudenbeck made her announcement about an hour later.

“I feel like I am making a difference for my constituents and the citizens of Wisconsin,” she said.

August represents the state’s 32nd Assembly District, while Loudenbeck represents the 31st.
