Lucinda and Mark Rapata express their sadness and gratitude for the staff at Geneva Lake Manor nursing home, 211 S. Curtis St., Lake Geneva.

To the editor:

Our heart breaks for the caring, conscientious staff at Geneva Lake Manor. Our family was blessed three years ago when my mother was placed in this family-oriented facility. Her declining health required long-term care.

I was visiting my mother on March 11 when additional security was being installed and the decision was made to lock down this location. They were one of the first to do this, though many folks felt they were being overly cautious.

Starting that evening, no visitors were allowed and all deliveries would be left outside to be sanitized first. What a huge undertaking since this included all food for the facility.

During the next month I was continually updated on my mother's status. Any changes, I was immediately informed. Every precaution was put in place.

But this is an invisible enemy, its a war they are fighting. You can't see it and no one has figured out how to fight it.

This is an impossible time. The staff puts themselves at risk every day to care for our loved ones. The residents have all become the staff's loved ones, and they grieve in their hearts when anyone is ill, no matter what causes the illness.

Please give your understanding, support and prayers to these brave people. They are our superheroes.

We also grieve for the staff at the other unnamed facility.

Lucinda and Mark Rapata,

Walworth
